DISCOVER IRISH PARIS

Discover Irish Paris will provide you with a choice of self-guided walking tours that cover most of the 20 Arrondissements of Paris as well as St Germain-en-Laye. Three tours are offered this Spring with specific themes and more will be added in future. All of the tours will be updated from time to time and/or replaced with others as new research and other changes on the ground require. There will be enhanced information in some tours included in others where relevant to the tour theme/location to provide you with as rich and informative an experience as possible. Tours do not include visits inside National monuments or landmark buildings such as Museums etc: these are at your own time and choice. However, several of these have specific and interesting Irish connections which these tours also reveal if you wish to visit them.

Building a 'community of interest' will help to make this project real and relevant so please think about becoming a member by completing the membership form on the JOIN US page on this website - it is free and there is no obligation to purchase any of the tours on the site. By becoming a member, you will receive updates on new tours and other news relevant to this site. In time, DISCOVER IRISH PARIS.COM hopes to organise some small bespoke group tours (max 8 people) in Paris depending on interest.

Walking Tour Structure

All our current tours have the same easy and accessible structure:

  • All begin and end at specific metro/RER stations for convenience and orientation.
  • Each walk has an indicated time duration and distance – usually half-a-day or maybe a whole day's walking at leisure. These are indicative: it is up to you as to how much or how little you want to see.
  • The Itinerary highlights the focal point for each stage of the walking tour at the outset for information.
  • For orientation, principal landmarks and monuments are used at the start to quickly flag which part of the city you are going to explore.
  • Clear directions are provided to enable you to reach each stage of the tour.
  • Photographs are included to help identify places as well as providing historical context.
  • Many of the places we explore such as churches, libraries, restaurants etc on these tours are free to enter if they are open at the time of your walk. Please be mindful of religious services that maybe in progress when you visit.

Above: Just below Le Pantheon, on rue Montagne St Genevieve, this is an area with long Irish connections and the heart of the old Quartier Latin. Find out more in Tour 1/2025
